30k Mile: Engine Air Filter

Replace filter element.

Tools needed:

None.

Parts needed:

996-110-131-04 Air cleaner cartridge I've been getting these consistently for $24 and change.

Procedure:

Access the engine compartment

The air filter is located on the left side of the engine compartment. In the picture below it is the part with the clean smudges.

There is a clip on the front and the rear of this cover. Pry them gently back and pull the filter housing up and towards the center of the car, it should slide with modest persuasion.

You can see the amount of debris that gets trapped in the filter. When sliding it out, be very careful not to drop any dirt into the plenum. In fact, once it is out, you should put a thin attachment on a vacuum cleaner and suck out any dirt that landed in the plenum. It's very difficult to see down there, but try to be thorough. You don't want any dirt getting into the engine.

Replace the filter in the filter housing and slide the housing back in place until both connectors engage.
