I don't care who "wins" today.
This is the least important election cycle in my
life. It makes no difference whatsoever who "wins."
If the republicans win, they will
continue to bloat the government. They will continue to do nothing to impel the
President to do more to win the war. They will continue their grotesque petty
corruption in sucking our money for "bridges to nowhere." They will continue to
use the war to excuse passing laws that have been resisted for decades. They
will continue to stifle our freedom of speech with so called campaign finance
laws.
If the democrats win,
everything will be the same. The congress will not do anything that the
President won't allow. The democrats will be unable to override a veto. In
fact, Bush might finally do more vetos. The only thing that a democratic
congress can do is impeach the President, and I have every expectation that they
will. This will make impeachment into a farce, but what has there been about
the democrats that hasn't been a farce since Jimmy Carter was elected? The
impeachment cannot result in a conviction, so it will be
meaningless.
In two years we will elect
a president again. What happens today will mean nothing to our country, but
maybe it will remind the republicans to do the right thing if they ever regain
power again.
